Academic Drawing & Painting: Home School (TUES)
All Levels

With imagination and more continued study, art can come alive! In addition to learning how to draw basic shapes and forms to create the illusion of volume and light, students will use a variety of materials to accurately draw people, animals, landscapes and more using graphite, charcoal and colored pencils. The basic elements of composition and design will be discussed and applied with emphasis on the message behind the work. Students will explore the study of still life arrangements, and the simple steps for drawing a still life, including measurement and distance between height and width of the arrangements. Copying Master drawings is a challenging and revealing way to challenge an artist´s ability. Students will learn about famous artists and art periods, and study this work as practice. Visual elements and design principles will be applied in each lesson, including a more in-depth study of color theory and how colors affect each other when mixed or applied side by side. Students will observe how these colors change under different light and how to use them to re-create form, shape and mood. Basic and more advanced study of painting techniques, using oil pastels, watercolors and acrylics, and their use and versatility on various painting surfaces will be explored
